Holiday Season is Great Time for Networking

Tis the season to be jolly and to do some great
networking! Take advantage of the many power-packed opportunities to promote
your career or business that take place this time of year.
 |
Don’t Toss
Holiday Invitations |
Sure, you’ve already received a ton of invitations
to events you don’t want to go to and are likely to get even more. Don’t be
so quick to toss or delete them. Stack them up or move them to a “Maybe”
folder until you have more time to consider them. But before you do, take
stock of where you are in your life and where you’re headed. Who could help
move you along? Chances are they will be present at some event you’ve been
invited to. Though folks attend holiday functions to enjoy themselves, they
realize these are great opportunities to do business at the same time and
look forward to connecting with others this time of year. You need to do
this too. Just mind your manners — remember to RSVP.
 |
Look For
New Opportunities |
Armed with a sense of where you’d like to be this
time next year, look for new opportunities to help you get there. Don’t just
stick with familiar networks. New linkages are out there. Can’t identify any
on your own? Touch base with mentors and trusted colleagues. They’ll be
happy to give you some suggestions — and may even invite you to join them at
one of their select events.
 |
Enjoy
Yourself! |
While this merry season may find you
paradoxically experiencing some gloom if your life is not at the heights
trumpeted by others, push yourself out the door anyway. You won’t feel like
the life of the party, but you should enjoy something about the event
once you get there. At the very least, listening to others forces your
attention off your woes and onto new possibilities for your future. So enjoy
the holiday treats, learn from the conversations, and take note of ideas
that may give you a boost in the New Year.
Holiday networking can be a boon for those who
take time to think about why and what they’re attending and who appreciate
the exceptional opportunity to connect with a host of folks at the wonderful
collection of events taking place this time of year. Make sure you’re one of
them!
